Top 5 Biggest Animals On This Planet

Animal sizes can range from being smaller than the nail of a little finger, to being bigger than a semi truck.

Thankfully, the biggest animals are not dangerous to humans.
...In most cases anyway.

This is a list of the biggest animals from different categories. The list will include the biggest  amphibian, bird, land mammal, fish, and the biggest animal overall.

Here is the list of the biggest animals from the 5 categories mentioned above:

5. Chinese Giant Salamander

This amphibian is the largest one in the world.
With an average length of 1,83 meters(6 feet), and an average mass of
64 kilograms(141 lbs), it tops it's category - placing it at 5th place on this list.

Unfortunately this amphibian is endangered due to the fact that it is considered a delicacy in Chinese culinary culture, as well as being used for "medical" purposes in parts of Asia.

4. Ostrich

This huge, beaked creature, which is unable to fly, is the biggest bird alive.

With an average height of 210 cm (6,9 ft) , and an average mass of 104 kg (230 lbs), it is remarkably bigger than any other bird. And the eggs these birds lay are as big as a child's head.

The ostrich is also one of the fastest land animals alive, with an average top speed of about 70km/h (43,5 mph)!

3. African Bush Elephant

The African bush elephant is the greatest mammal walking on solid ground.
The average mass of these elephants is about 4900 kg (10 802,7 lbs), and the average length about 6 m (19,7 ft).

These elephants are also endangered, as trophy hunters and poachers kill them for their tusks and bones.

2. Whale Shark

This huge fish both sounds and looks more terrifying than it is in real life. The whale shark is a filter-
feeder, which means it only consumes smaller water organisms, thankfully.

The average length of a whale shark is 9,7 m (32 ft), and its average mass is 9000 kg (19841,6 lbs), making it the biggest yet discovered fish in the world.

Although the name of this great fish suggests that it is a hybrid, it is from the shark family.

1. Blue Whale

The blue whale is the biggest discovered creature on earth. However, despite its size, it is rarely seen. This is because it is spending most of its time in the depths of the ocean, only rarely surfacing.

The length of this absolutely massive whale is on average 24 m (79 ft), and its average weight is about 110 000 kg (242 508,5 lbs), making it number one on this list.

It is estimated that an average blue whale would be able to swallow three school buses
- Although, luckily for students, school buses tend to stay onshore.
